Abstract

1,055,736. Friction and belt gearing; stopping and starting. W. KRATZSCH. March 17, 1964 [April 18, 1963; Dec. 31, 1963], No. 11296/64. Headings F2L and F2Q. In a friction drive from a wheel 4 to a wheel 24 frictional contact is maintained by drive torque reaction by mounting the wheel 4 and its drive motor eccentrically in a rotatable block 2 rotatable by a handle 17 to disengage the drive and brake the driven wheel 24. The motor and wheel 4 are also loaded against the driven wheel 24 by springs 15 and 11. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the drive wheel 4 is swung through 180 degrees to reengage the driven wheel and the handle 17 during this movement switches-off and then restarts the motor in reverse. In Fig. 10 (not shown), the handle 17 applies an internal brake to the driven wheel. The drive wheel may be stepped for multi-ratio drive and move axially with its eccentric housing by a gear 34, Fig. 5 (not shown), operated by hand wheel 39 which when swung laterally disengages the friction drive through linkage 36-37. For a flat or V-belt drive a belt is passed around the driving and driven wheels, rotation of the drive wheel in its eccentric housing decreasing belt tension sufficiently to stop drive transmission. In Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), a belt drive wheel drives a wheel 67 mounted with a friction gear-wheel 71 on eccentricallymounted spindle 68.
