807,709. Valves and valve gear. SULZER FRERES S. A. July 3, 1957 [July 14, 1956], No. 21081/57. Class 7(6) In a multicylinder two stroke engine having rotary exhaust valves 4 in series with piston-controlled exhaust ports 2, each cylinder is provided with a separate valve 4 in a separate detachable valve housing 5, the valve shafts 6 being coupled together and to the drive shaft 12 by axially and radially flexible couplings 13 which, when released, permit any valve to be removed without dismantling any other valves. The couplings 13 comprise a chain 16, Fig. 5, wound loosely round sprockets 14 on the valve shafts 6. The number of teeth on the sprockets 14 is arranged so that the phase shifts between successive valves is an integral number of tooth pitches e.g. each sprocket may have twenty four teeth so that each tooth corresponds to a phase shift of 15 degrees.
