807,316. Linear dimension and surface gauges. FINE, W. E. June 6, 1956, No. 17424/56. Class 106 (2). An attachment for a dial indicator 38 to enable it to be positioned for easy reading comprises a supporting bracket 12 clamped to one end of a tubular barrel 10 having a threaded nipple 25, Fig. 4, on the other end, a rod 11 extending through the barrel 10 and engaging one arm of a bell-crank lever 17, the other arm of which engages the stem 37 of the indicator 38, and an adaptor 23 having a coupling 26 on one end and a rod 44 inside in engagement with the rod 11, the end of the rod 44 projecting from the end of the adaptor 23. One or more extension pieces 22 with a similar coupling 26 and a nipple similar to that on the barrel and each containing a rod may be fitted between the barrel 10 and the adaptor 26. The rods in the adaptor and extension pieces are each pressed outwards by compression springs, the rod 11 being held in contact with the rod in the extension piece 25 or adaptor 26 by the dial indicator spring. Fig. 6 shows an alternative adaptor in which a rod 57 engages a lever 69, 71, adapted to contact a surface mounted on a lathe or boring tool.
