[Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a fixed jaw carried by a frame member and a movable jaw carried by a lever arm the pivot of which is adjustable relatively to the frame member, in order that the jaw may be set substantially parallel, and hand-operated means for setting the jaw to a dimension, the lever arm actuating an indicating device. A frame member 10 carries a fixed jaw 11 a lever arm 14 being pivotally mounted on a screwed standard 17 adjustably mounted in the frame 10 and carrying at one end the other jaw 12 substantially parallel to the fixed jaw. An adjusting screw 24 is mounted in the frame 10 so as to bear on the inner end of the lever 14 and adjust the distance between the jaws. A blade spring 27 holds the lever 14 in engagement with the screw 24 and the plunger of a dial indicator 22 clamped in the frame by a screw 26 engages the arm 14 to indicate departure from the set measurement between the jaws. Locking-nuts 19 and 25 are provided as shown and a spring 28 with up-turned lugs 28a bears against the movable jaw to hold it up to the work. The jaws may be provided with ball contacts 29a, 29b, 29c. In a modification the jaws may be detachably secured to sockets in the ends of the lever and frame respectively the fixed jaw or both having a plurality of sockets to increase the range. The outer ends of the jaws may have detachable ribs to engage the work. For outside measurements the lever 14 is inverted and the setting screw 24 interchanged with the dial indicator. In this case, the screwed bush 21 may be dispensed with.
