Abstract

807,264. Oil-break switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 4, 1955 [Nov. 10, 1954], No. 32551/54. Class 38 (5). In an oil circuit-breaker having a spring-powered mechanism 16 for opening contacts 20, 21 which are housed in an oil-filled interrupter chamber 11, means are provided for maintaining the oil under substantial constant pressure irrespective of the contact position. In Fig. 1, a spring switch - operating toggle mechanism 16 is housed in a compartment 12b and an expansible bag, e.g. of rubber is housed in a compartment 12a. The bag 14 is inflated with gas under pressure and maintains the oil at the desired pressure of about 100 lbs. per sq. inch. A float-operated relief valve indicated at 18 permits the release of gases formed by arcing and an emergency relief valve is provided at 17. Figs. 2 (a) and 2 (b) (not shown) illustrate arrangments for maintaining the oil pressure by continuous pumping.
