Abstract

807,246. Carburetters. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES .S. I. B. E. Nov. 23, 1956 [Dec. 5, 1955], No. 35941/56. Class 7(3) A carburetter comprises thermosensitive means capable of preventing the throttle valve from coming into its normal minimum opening position (corresponding to idling) once the valve has been opened and arranged to give the throttle valve a minimum opening greater than this last mentioned value (and corresponding to accelerated idling) the means being such as to come sharply, i.e. not progressively, into action when the air temperature at the intake of the carburetter drops below the upper limit temperature of ice formation in the engine induction pipe. As shown a shim 13, carried by a bimetallic strip 11, is arranged to come between a fixed abutment 10 and an idling adjusting screw 9 carried by a member 8 rigid with the throttle spindle 5. The bimetallic strip comes into operation when the air temperature drops below the temperature mentioned above, such as 7‹C. The angular position of the pin 12 may be modified to adjust the position of the outer end of the bimetallic strip. The object of the invention is to prevent stalling due to ice formation on the edge of the throttle valve. In a modification (Fig. 3) the arrangement is such that when the temperature at the air intake ranges from 0‹C. to 7‹C. the shim 13 comes into position between the screw 9 and the abutment 10. Abutments 14, 14a limit displacements of the bimetallic strip.
