Abstract

806,128. Cutting apparatus. MODERN COFFEES Inc. March 3, 1956, No. 6768/56. Class 31 (1). [Also in Groups XVII and XVIII] A machine for making and filling bags (see Group XVII), has means for sealing together webs transversely to close the top and bottom bag ends, the sealing means including knives and grooves which co-operate to sever or partially sever one bag from another. The knives 111 are mounted on opposed sealing surfaces 106, 107 and enter grooves 113 in co-operating surfaces 108, 109. The surfaces are carried on recessed portions of heated rollers 104, 105. The base of each groove has an insert 152, Fig. 14, of stainless steel slightly softer than the knife so that the knives will tend to " lap " the inserts to produce more efficient cutting. Notches 126 may be provided in one of the knives to enable bags to remain joined by narrow webs.
