1,032,182. Vacuum packaging between webs. INDUSTRIEELE FABRICAGE - EN HANDELSMAATSCHAPPIJ " ESSOR " N.V. April 29, 1964 [May 3, 1963], No. 17741/64. Heading B8C. A vacuum is first established outside a package 7 (Fig. 1, not shown), formed by sealing two synthetic webs 4, 5 face-to-face, and the vacuum is then admitted to the package through an incomplete seam by piercing the webs adjacent and outside the incomplete seam. In the embodiment described, the longitudinal margins of the webs are sealed on either side of a product 7 before the webs are fed into a vacuum chamber 9 which has a hinged lid 10. An interrupted transverse seam is then formed by a member 14, and a complete seam spaced slightly behind it is simultaneously formed by a member 13. After the chamber 9 has been evacuated the webs are pierced between the two seams by projecting portions of a blade 15 to evacuate the package, the sealing head 14 is moved transversely of the web so that it can complete the interrupted seal, arid the blade 15 makes a further movement to sever the evacuated package completely. The package may include two side-by-side compartments.
