Abstract

1,184,483. Machine for vacuum formed packages. MAHAFFY & HARDER ENG. CO. 9 Feb., 1967 [9 Feb., 1966], No. 49636/69. Divided out of 1,184,481. Heading B8C. The description is the same as that of Specification 1,184,481 but the claims are directed to both a method and apparatus for packaging, wherein, the method comprises forming a first web into a series of cups with mouth flanges, product filling and covering the mouths of the cups with a second web whilst intermittently transporting them to a sealing die at a finishing station, pressing a sealing clamp against the sealing die around the mouth of the cup in the die with the second web extending thereover to form an air tight compartment above the cup and then evacuating both the cup and air tight compartment, heat sealing the second web to the cup and removing the closed package from the die.
