Abstract

804,730. Copy-turning. MASCHERPA, A. Feb. 14, 1957 [March 2, 1956], No. 5130/57. Class 83 (3). A pattern-carrying device for copying-lathes comprises two centres, one centre being mounted in a supporting head manually adjustable axially while the other centre is mounted in a second supporting head for axial movement therein, such movement being resisted by two springs, one of which is weaker than the other and comes into action first, the movement of the second, stronger, spring being indicated on a dial. The pattern 3, Fig. 1, is held between centres 4, 5, the former of which has the usual axial adjustment means operated by a worm 11 and wheel 12. The adjusting hand wheel 9, Fig. 2, is carried by a long support 10 so that it may be convenient to the operator at the front of the machine. The other centre 5 is slidable in a member 7 and pressed forwards to engage the pattern by a light spring 6. The member 7 is also slidable in the head 1 and has rack teeth engaged by a pinion 16. The latter is mounted on a shaft 18, Fig. 3, which carries an indicator 21 at one end and a spiral watch-type spring 17 at the other end. This spring is stronger than spring 6 so that the latter is first compressed, before the former comes into operation and indications of axial movement shown.
