Abstract

Uranium is produced by reacting a uranium-halogen compound with an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or with an alloy of two or more such metals, the process being carried out in a vessel lined with magnesia, formed by coating the interior of the vessel with a paste-like mixture of magnesia, water and a binder, drying the lining at a low temperature and then raising the temperature to a dull red heat. The binder is preferably magnesium chloride and the magnesia used should contain less than 2 per cent of lime. Specifications 804,063 and 804,064 are referred to.
