Classes 7(2) and 7(6) The stem 24 of an intake poppet valve 20 is provided with an annular recess 50 of sufficient length to remain in communication througout the motion of the valve with an air vent passage 46 leading to atmosphere, thereby preventing lubricating oil being drawn down the valve guide by the suction in the intake passage.
