Abstract
801,881. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. STANDARD - THOMSON CORPORATION. Sept. 30, 1954 March 3, 1954, No. 28193/54. Class 64(2) To calibrate a temperature - responsive actuating element, the element is kept at the desired operating temperature and the peripheral wall 10 of a casing 9 containing an expansible material 24 and a vacuum is indented until an elastic body 12 is distorted and an actuating rod 34 in a cavity therein starts to move out of the casing, i.e. when the material 24 completely fills its space in the casing. The indentations 38 may also provide a greater area for heat transfer. The casing 9 is closed by an apertured disc 20 which retains a flange 16 of the body 12 and to which the body may be stuck. A collar 21, with a central hole tapered outwardly from the element to seal on the rod 34, is stuck to the disc 20 to prevent entry of liquid into the cavity in the body 12.
