Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXIX] A thermal element for actuating a valve (see Group XXIX) comprises a housing 22 containing a deformable plug 54 of elastomeric material and thermo-responsive waxy material 60 surrounding the plug, and a rod 40 with a cylindrical surface 38, an irregular surface 64 and a tapered end 62 projecting into the plug for reciprocation therein in response to temperature variation, whereby the valve carrying housing is moved over the rod but movement is delayed by the surface 64.
