Abstract

436,836. Thermostats. ROYER, G. G., 31, Boulevard PÚreire, Paris. Feb. 16, 1935, No. 5044. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1934. [Class 64 (ii)] In a thermostat of the kind employing an expansible medium in a rigid container, the expansible substance is contained in a number of flat recesses 3 connected by passages 4, formed in a member 2 fitting tightly, soldered or otherwise secured within a sleeve 1. The expansible substance is thus provided with a large surface area for heat transfer, and quick action is obtained. A resilient piston 6 and rod 7 transmit the expansion movements to any desired mechanism. In a modification the recess containing the expansible substance is constituted by a continuous screw thread. The expansible substance may be ceryl alcohol, miricyl alcohol, quince oil hydroxy acid, paraffins, the substance known by the Registered Trade Mark " Vaseline," oxokerite, carnauba wax, cerotic acid, palmitic acid, hyenic acid, arachidic acid, melissic acid, psylla-stearic acid, lano-palmitic acid, stearic acid, pisang wax, or other fats or waxes, with or without solvents.
