883,346. Automatic temperature-control systems. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 18, 1960 [Jan. 16, 1959], No. 1719/59. Class 38 (4). [Also in Groups XIII and XL (b)] A temperature-control system for glasshouses comprises a thermostat 23 which is arranged so as to keep the temperature of the glasshouse at a datum value, a solarstat 10 being associated with the system whereby the datum value of the thermostat is adjusted in accordance with the solar radiation. Thus as the solar radiation increases the glasshouse temperature may be raised. The solarstat may be located inside the glasshouse or alternatively outside the glasshouse and in the latter case compensating means may be associated with the solarstat to compensate for ambient conditions. The solarstat may comprise a bi-metal strip, a liquid-filled capsule or a resistance thermometer, thermistor or thermopile. The resistance thermometer 19 in Fig. 2 is supported on bodies 15, 18 of heatinsulating material and is provided with a blackened surface. The thermometer 19 is housed beneath a transparent dome 16. If it is situated in the open the dome has an inner and an outer member. The temperature control of the glasshouse is made by means of a heater 24 and a ventilator 25.
