727,880. Temperature-responsive actuating- elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 17, 1953 [Dec. 17, 1952], No. 35199/53. Class 64 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A thermostatic device, particularly for use in alarm devices for freezing chambers, comprises a closed chamber 14 which has an expansible wall 22 and is filled with an aqueous solution of potassium chromate which expands on freezing. The chromate and water are approximately in the proportions of a eutectic mixture. The solution may contain a nucleating agent, e.g. silver iodide crystals, graphite, or clays.
