In the freezing of waterbearing ground around a borehole 8, the space between the borehole and a freezing tube 1, 2 positioned therein is filled with a liquid 7, for example sodium silicate or any derivative of silicic acid, which neither freezes nor alters in volume on being cooled to the temperature of the refrigerant circulating through the freezing tube.
