554,127. Fluorine compounds. SIEGEL, W. Nov. 18 1941, No. 14819. [Class 1 (ii)] Hydrofluoric acid and other gaseous fluorine compounds are obtained by mixing fluorspar with calcium sulphate of sandy or gravelly consistency, agitating and heating the mixture and simultaneously or subsequently introducing sulphuric acid. The amount of calcium sulphate is always substantially greater than the amount of fluorspar and sulphuric acid. In order to obtain hydrofluoric acid free from hydrofluorsilicic acid from fluorspar containing silica a quantity of sulphuric acid is added to the mixture less than is equivalent to the fluorspar and the silica is then all volatilized in the form of silico-fluorine compounds; the remainder of the sulphuric acid is then added and the temperature raised to cause evolution of hydrofluoric acid.
