Abstract

801,131. Controlling burners. NEWMAN, L. W., and DINE, R. May 24, 1955 [May 27, 1954], No. 15694/54. Class 75(1) An oil burner comprises a fuel nozzle I a primary air nozzle 2 and a secondary air nozzle 3, the secondary air supply being controlled by a valve (not shown) separate from the secondary air nozzle and actuated by a thermostat responsive to the temperature in the vicinity of the burner, and the fuel supply being controlled by a manual regulator 5 and by a valve 8 actuated by means responsive to the pressure of secondary air at a point between the thermostatically responsive valve and the secondary air nozzle. The fuel valve 8 slides across an orifice 7 and is connected by a spindle 17 to a flexible metal capsule 10 housed in a closed chamber 15 connected by a pipe 16 to a pipe socket 13 to which the secondary air from the thermostatically controlled valve is led. The maximum closing and opening of the fuel valve 8 are determined by set screws 24, 25. The primary air supply is not controlled by the thermostatically responsive valve and is fed by a pipe including a choke or a valve to a socket 12. The fuel, primary air and secondary air nozzles are coaxial. The secondary air nozzle is adjustable.
