An aerating device for attachment to the outlet of a fluid conduit to prevent splashing comprises two sub-assemblies which can be readily detatched for cleaning. One assembly consists of a sleeve 16 threaded for screwing on to the conduit, that has a number of slots 13 cut in its wall and has internal shoulders at 16 and 28. The slots 13 are masked internally by a flared annular collar 17 that is seated on the shoulder 16 and is a permanent press-fit in the bore of the sleeve. A second and similar collar 32 is pressed in lower down the sleeve, where it retains a perforated screen 33 which is seated on the shoulder 28. The other assembly comprises a disc 21 perforated with holes 23 from which depends a plug 24. The plug 24 is formed with a cylindrical skirt 27, a globular body 26, a neck 25 and is riveted centrally into the disc 21. When assembled the disc 21 is seated on the upper flange of the collar 17 and the joint between the sleeve 12 and the conduit 11 is sealed with a rubber washer 23. The annular space between the body 26 and the bottom of the collar 17 is greater than the total area of the inlet holes 23 of the disc 21. This is to avoid completely filling the space around the neck 25 with fluid, and to permit aeration by jets from the holes 23 impinging on the surface of the body 26 and by turbulence.
