Abstract
708,882. Pressure-relieving devices. MIDLAND METAL SPINNING CO., Ltd., and WYER. J. M. May 13, 1953 [May 16, 1952], No. 12394/52. Class 135 A pressure-relieving device for a pressure cooker comprises a conical plug 15, Fig. 2, of non-fuzible metal having a fuzible metal core 16 extending completely through it and an apertured rubber washer 21 stretched over the flange 20 of an inwardly projecting flanged conical hole 13 in, e.g., the cooker lid 10. The plug is inserted in the hole from inside the cooker and the washer masks the joint between the plug and its core whilst permitting the fusible metal to be subjected to the temperature and pressure conditions within the cooker. In a modification, the plug 14, Fig. 5, is cylindrical and a flange 23 prevents it from being expelled from the cooker. The plug may be made entirely of fuzible metal.
