Abstract

662,889. Pressure relieving devices for fluids. PLATERS & STAMPERS, Ltd., and HORNER, H. May 18, 1950 [May 19, 1949] No. 13442/49. Class 135 A pressure relief plug for a pressure cooker &c. comprises a resilient member 1 mounted in an opening 3 in the cooker lid and having a stepped aperture 8, and a fusible closure member 9. The member 9 is movable under normal pressure in the cooker to cause a portion 10 to seal the aperture, and under a predetermined excess pressure to force the portion 10 through the aperture to release the pressure. A foot 13 prevents the member 9 being detached from the member 1. If the aperture is obstructed, the entire plug will be expelled from the opening 3 at a slightly higher pressure than said predetermined pressure, and an undue rise of temperature causes the member 9 to melt and release the pressure in the cooker.
