Abstract

894,181. Pipe connections. BAUER, M. F. Feb. 6, 1961, No. 4401/61. Class 99(1). A conical sealing surface 31 on the shank 30 of a fitting 18 engages an annular corner 16 defined by a passageway 13 and a transverse wall 15 in a connection body 10, and is forced by means, such as a nut 33, against the corner to conically deform and thereby coin the corner into a self-aligned substantially conical seating surface which selfmatches the surface 31, the latter being harder than the corner. As shown, the nut 33 is screwed into the body and engages a shoulder 29 on the shank. In a modification, the nut is dispensed with and the fitting screwed directly into the body.
