Abstract

1,066,006. Valves. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY Ltd. March 28, 1966 [June 29, 1965], No. 27410/65. Heading F2V. A valve adapted to release air from a conduit but preventing the escape of liquid comprises a float valve member 5 urged by gravity towards an inlet 2 connected to the conduit. The valve member is dimensioned to function in the manner of an adherent disc, as defined in Specification 405,385, with respect to a stream of air passing through the inlet, i.e. the air stream issues in a radially uniform manner past the hemispherical end of the valve member but does not blow the latter away from the inlet. When, however, water starts to flow past the valve member, the latter is forced upwardly to engage a seat surrounding an outlet 3. The seat comprises a rigid ring 9 surrounded by a resilient ring 10, which latter is deformed before the valve member engages ring 9. As shown, the upper end of the valve member is conical; in alternative embodiments this end may be flat or dome-shaped, the dome having a greater radius than the cylindrical part 5 of the valve member.
