A rotary closure 1, Fig. 1, e.g. of cylindrical, conical or, as shown, spherical form, has one as shown, or more through-bores 8 and a slot 7 for the operating spindle, which closure cooperates with one or more seats each consisting of an annular stainless steel diaphragm 9 embodying a groove 11 in which is a seat ring 12; the diaphragms are resilient and corrugated to accommodate limited movement of the closure 1 and are provided with outer annular ribs 10a, 10b. The rings 12 may be bonded to the diaphragms. Where more than one seat is provided each may be of the same or different pattern. In a modification, the innermost corrugation is formed with a part-spherical concave surface 21, Fig. 4, upon which there is bonded or sprayed the seat ring 22, the latter being made of a refractory organic or inorganic mixture or of a material such as P.T.F.E. The diaphragms are held in place between the adjacent faces of the body and the inlet and outlet connections. One of the outer corrugations 20 is disposed in a plane axially separated from a plane in which is disposed the radially inner portion of the diaphragm. The closure member is of conical form, the flow passage therethrough may have a portion coaxial with the member and a part normal thereto; the member extends through the diaphragm and the seat ring is complementary thereto and is not concave.
