Abstract

799,775. Casting composite articles. WELLWORTHY, Ltd. July 25, 1955 [April 23, 1954], No. 11823/54. Class 83 (1). In a process of casting Al or Al alloy on to a ferrous-metal article by contacting the surface of the article with molten Al or Al alloy to produce a ferro-aluminium interface bond-layer thereon and casting A1 or an Al alloy on to said treated surface, the ferrous article is located in a mould and the molten A1 or A1 alloy flowed therethrough for such time as is necessary to form the interface layer, and the flow is then stopped and the mould cavity allowed to fill. The ferrous article may be coated before positioning it in the mould, with a metallic barrierlayer which modifies the normal behaviour of the aluminizing treatment, e.g. with zinc, tin, chromium or nickel. The article may comprise stainless-steel tubes assembled to form a heatexchanger unit. Specifications 599,684 and 799,776 are referred to.
