Abstract
Substantially nitrate-free acidic phosphorusbearing solutions containing iron and fluorine impurities are treated, when diluted to a P2O5 concentration of 11 to 20 per cent by weight, with an amount of calcium carbonate sufficient to produce a pH of 2.3 to 3.0, over a period of 40 to 120 minutes and the solution is then filtered. Preferably the pH ranges being 2.5 and 2.8; the P2O5 concentration from 12 to 15 per cent and the time 50 to 80 minutes. Such defluorinated acidic phosphate solutions may be treated by the method described in Specification 799,490 with more calcium carbonate to produce dicalcium phosphate.ALSO:Substantially nitrate-free acidic phosphorus-bearing solutions containing iron and fluorine impurities are treated when diluted to a P2O5 concentration of 11 to 20 per cent by weight, with an amount of calcium carbonate sufficient to produce a pH of 2,3 to 3,0, over a period of 40 to 120 minutes and the solution is then filtered. The solutions may be treated with more calcium carbonate to produce dicalcium phosphate, e.g., by the method described in Specification 799,490 to produce an animal feed supplement.
