Abstract

799,113. Air filters. WIPAC FILTRATION, Ltd. Dec. 5, 1956 [Dec. 12, 1955155No. 35659/55. Class 8(2). An air cleaner suitable for internal combustion engines comprises a removable filter element 7 of pleated filter sheet formed as a hollow cylinder sealed to end caps 8 and 9 which are secured to, and separated by, co-axial perforated tubes 10 and 11. A stud 3 carried by a bridge piece 2 and terminating in a screw thread 4, passes through an aperture in the domed portion of a cover 12 which may be provided with a sealing ring 13. Flange 5, formed on a metal tube 1, carries a sealing ring 6 and provides a seating for the lower end cap 9, while the upper end cap 8 engages the sealing ring 13, when provided, which seals the hollow space 17 from the space 18 when the assembly is clamped together by means of nut 14. Dirt, dislodged from the filter element by transmission of vibrations set up by the engine, falls out through the annular opening 16.
