Abstract

844,862. Purifying charge. ROVER CO. Ltd. Oct. 25, 1957 [Nov. 12, 1956], No. 34466/56. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXXI] An air intake filter for an internal combustion engine includes a filter medium 14 attached to the interior surface of a member 11 enclosing the engine and a flexible conduit 21 connecting the space between the medium and the member to the air intake of the engine. The member 11, which may be an "alligator" bonnet, has ledges 13, 13 and apertured ribs 16, 16 to which filter cloth 14 is sealingly attached by screws and captive nuts. The conduit 20 is provided with a cup-like member 17 with ports 17a in its side walls and is connected to the engine intake by a pipe 21. The member 17 may be omitted and the cloth 14 may be replaced by a perforated metal plate welded to the ledges 13, 13 to support a layer of fine steel wool which does not extend above the end of the conduit 21. In a further construction, an inverted conical cup is welded to the conduit 21 so that the whole of the space may be filled with filtering medium supported by a perforated plate or, with the ribs 16 omitted, by filter cloth.
