Abstract
798,707. Making heat exchangers. BABCOX & WILCOX CO. March 6,1956 [March 17, 1955], No. 7037/56. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Relates to a heat exchanger (see Group XIII) comprising an elongated cylindrical pressure vessel 12 containing a bundle of U-tubes arranged in groups 25, the tubes passing through the vessel wall and being connected to inlet and outlet header chambers 30 for each group arranged along the vessel wall. A method of making such a heat exchanger comprises forming two plates each into one half of the cylindrical vessel, arranging one half of the heat exchange tubes of the tube bundle so that laterally extending end portions 26 of said tubes pass through the wall of one said half of the vessel, similarly arranging the other half of the heat exchange tubes 2 so that laterally extending end portions 26 of these tubes pass through the wall of the other half of the vessel, placing the two halves together to enclose the tube bundle, securing together these halves by two longitudinal seam welds (Fig. 3, not shown) and attaching end portions 14, 16 to the vessel to enclose same.
