A lipstick holder comprising an axially-slotted inner tube 1 having a yielding stop 10, 11, an helically slotted scroll tube 13, an outer tube 20 and a holding cup 24 with a projection 25, has near the upper end of the scroll tube an edge surface 15 forming a circumferential extension of the helical slot, below the projection 25 when the latter has been moved enough to overcome the yielding stop. The inner tube 1 is closed at the lower end by a flanged finger knob 2, the wall of the flange 3 being slit and bent at tongue 5 which projects into annular space 4, and it has an axial slot 6 with a flared open upper end 7 ; it also has a limited secondary slot 8 with its upper end merging with a circumferential slot 9 entering the main slot 6 so that a spring leaf 10 is formed having a hook 11, the leaf 10 and hook 11 together constituting the yielding stop ; a tongue 12 with a downwardly facing lip 19 is punched near the free end in the wall of the tube. Surrounding the inner tube is the scroll tube 13, which has a helical slot 14 open at each end, and a circumferential edge surface 15 at one side of its upper end extending to an axially directed stop edge 17, and a rectangular aperture 18 punched in its wall. The tube 13 is mounted on the tube 1 by screwing it past the tongue 12 so that it is retained by engagement of its free end beneath the lip 19, and is surrounded by the outer tube 20 of which the lower end is located in the annular space 4 ; being provided with a tongue 22 to abut the tongue 5 and a rectangular depression 21 in its wall to register with the aperture 18, and having a slot 23 formed in the beading at its upper edge. The axially projecting pin 25 of the cup 24 engages in the axial slot 6 and the scroll slot 14. Normally the projection of the holding cup is limited through engagement of the projection 25 with the projection 11 on the spring leaf 10 ; when the cup is to be replaced, the tube 1 is rotated forcefully relative to the tubes 13 and 20 so that the projection 25 overcomes the yielding stop 10, 11 and rides along the edge surface 15 until it reaches the stop edge 17, after which the cup may be lifted out. Accidental re-entry of the cup into the holder is prevented by the engagement of the projection 25 with the edge surface 15.
