797,600. Locally bonded flexible laminates. CADARIO, Z. R. V., and VEZZANI, S. R. June 3, 1955, No. 15978/55. Class 140. [Also in Group XV] A laminate comprising locally bonded, repeatably separable and re-adherable sheets of which at least one is transparent for use as a protective cover or album page protecting photographs, pictures, postage stamps, documents or like objects inserted between the component sheets, is formed by drawing a web from a supply reel across a table where spaced parallel continuous or discontinuous lines of adhesive are applied from a funnel by spaced distributing nozzles and, when the adhesive has set to a pressure-sensitive state, pressing by means of rollers a second web of slightly different width drawn from a second supply reel on to the adhesively striped web, whereafter the laminate is either cut into required lengths or rolled up for subsequent cutting. As shown, an opaque non-absorbent, preferably calendered, paper or paperboard web 2<SP>1</SP> is striped from nozzles 4<SP>1</SP> on a funnel 4 with a solution of a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising nitrocellulose dissolved in a mixture of solvents including benzene, toluene, butyl alcohol, butyl phthalate, and amyl acetate, and a slightly wider transparent web 3<SP>1</SP> as of cellulose acetate is applied to the paper by a roller 9 after the adhesive has set, drying means (not shown) being provided if necessary. The two sheets are pressed into contact by driven mangle rollers 10 prior to being cut by a guillotine 14.
