Abstract

In a transfer of the kind consisting of a carrier sheet, a releasable film layer on the sheet, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive superposed on the film layer, the adhesive comprises two components present as discrete phases and which, subsequent to the transfer of the film layer to a receptor surface, can be treated by heat to convert the discrete phases to a single phase and thus increase the strength and the heat-resistance of the adhesive bond. The film layer is in the form of separate letters, symbols &c., each separately transferable by pressure, using a stylus and, in some cases by stretching the carrier sheet as described in Specification 959,670. The carrier sheet, which may be rigid or flexible, or may be transparent, can comprise paper, plastic film, metal foil or laminate material treated to cause the film layer to adhere thereto but to be releasable. A detachable paper sheet may be provided to protect the transfer before use. Suitable inks for forming the film layer and which may be applied by screen or gravure printing, are as follows: Example 1.
