Abstract

374,427. Compound sheet material. DYMENT, P. A., 245, Carlaw Avenue, Toronto, Canada. March 7, 1931, No. 7147. [Class 140.] In a machine for mounting sheets of paper on cardboard sheets of the type in which a pair of individual surface sheets are affixed simultaneously to both sides of an individual card, the said sheets are advanced into juxtaposed relation with the card by combined gripping and pressure cylinders which firmly compress the sheets anc. card immediately they are brought together. Glue may be applied to the surface sheets by means of applying rollers or other means, the sheets being supported on portions of the cylinders raised above the remaining surface, so as to prevent the application of glue to the cylinders, or the cards may be passed between means which apply glue to each side before being passed between the cylinders. In the form shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, a pair of cylinders 1, 2 are located one above the other, with their axes parallel, and arranged to rotate in opposite directions. Feed tables 3, 4 are arranged to feed the paper sheets, and gripping devices 7 of known type are provided. The cards are fed from a table 10 between rolls 8, 9 which apply glue to both sides, and then pass between the sheets on the cylinders 1,2,the operation of the machine being so timed that the sheets are applied in register to the cards. The cylinders 1, 2, Fig. 2, may be provided with raised packings 1<1>, 2<1> on which the sheets are received, glue applying rolls 13, 14 being prcvided which come into contact with the sheets but do not touch other parts of the cylinders. The cards are fed between the cylinders from a table 15.
