Abstract
797,311. Rotary compressors. NICHOLS, T. W. Jan. 23, 1957 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 2300/56. Class 110 (2). A compressor system comprises one or more single - stage oil - sealed rotary compressors 1 ... 4, driven by a power shaft 5 through gearing, wherein the oil carried by the delivered air is separated out in a receiver. The oil, under pressure from the delivery air is forced through a fan - cooled multi-stage radiator, from which it passes back to the compressor or compressors by way of an automatic cut-out valve. Shafts 7, of the compressors, are coupled by gears 8, 9, 10, 11 to a pinion 6 on the shaft 5. Idler gears may be used in the trains to ensure that all rotors, in the compressors, rotate in the same direction. Suction inlets 18 and delivery ports 19 are provided. The compressors may be enclosed in a casing through which cooling air is passed. A chain drive may replace the gear drive.
