Abstract

797,259. Contacting gases with liquids. KOPPERS GES., H. April 9, 1956 [June 27, 1955], No. 10771/56. Class 55 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] Each stage 2 of a multi-stage gas washer 1 contains a rotary sprayer 5, and the liquid from each sprayer passes through a grate 3 after flushing a filler body bed and falls on to metal plates 7 which conduct it outwardly to a collecting channel 8 whereby it is recirculated by a pump 14. Gas is admitted to the washer at 15 and leaves at 16. The sprayer 5 (see Group XXIX) consists of a fixed section 19 and a rotary section 20 comprising adjustable nozzles 42 attached to an annular conical chamber 36. The nozzles are adjustable to vary the spray cone and to drive the rotary section. A magnet 48 attached to the latter passes an energizing winding 49 at each rotation and operates an acoustic or optical signal.
