Abstract

797,248. Exhaust ejectors; pumping charge. DE LAVAL STEAM TURBINE CO. Jan. 4, 1957 [Feb. 3, 1956], No. 489/57. Class 7(2) To provide re-circulatory gas flow as in Specification 792,122, aligned nozzles 14, Figs. 1 and 2, discharge exhaust from cylinder passages 12 of a six or eight cylinder engine into a duct 24 of substantially uniform cross-section having diffusers 28 delivering into a duct 32 extending along the duct 24 and in communication with its inlet end 36, exhaust finally passing at 6 to a turbo-charger the compressor of which delivers charge to the engine and may be as disclosed in Specification 792,122. The recirculatory flow may be from 25 per cent to 75 per cent of the total flow. In Figs. 4 and 7, cylinder passages 52, 54 respectively from the two banks of a sixteen cylinder engine discharge through nozzles 60, 62 into a duct 64 having diffusers 68. The invention is applicable to two-stroke diesel or four-stroke spark-ignition engines.
