Class 64(1) To reduce the temperature fluctuations of the blast received by a blast furnace or other action chamber 8 or 12 from two or more associated Cowper stoves 1, 2 in turn, a heat accumulator 7 or 11 is provided in the gas path from each Cowper stove to the blast furnace or other action chamber. During the heating period of the stove, the waste gases pass from it through the accumulator. During the blast period, the blast leaving the stove is initially hotter than the accumulator and so heats it, and later is cooler than and receives heat from it.
