Abstract
795,953. Mounting generators on engines. MILLER & CO., Ltd., H. July 1, 1955 [April 1, 1954], No. 9533/54. Class 35. An ignition and/or lighting generator for an I.C. engine has the rotor directly on the crankshaft and stator polepieces are secured in the walls of and project from the engine casing for connection to the coil core or cores. As shown, magnets 17 and their polepieces 18 are clamped between the flanges of a pair of discs carried by the sleeve 16 keyed to the crankshaft and co-operate with polepieces 22 cast into the wall of crankshaft extension 3 the stator unit being completed by coil core 23 which can be removed with the coil without disturbing polepieces 22. There can be additional stator units in which case the rotor would have four or more magnets, or several coils may be on the same coil core. The generator shown is at the driving end of the crank-shaft with the circuit breaker and its cam at the other end but if desired, the generator also could be at the non- driving end.
