Abstract

740,587. Generators with permanent magnets. SCINTILLA, Ltd. Aug. 25, 1953 [Sept. 23, 1952], No. 23443/53. Class 35. The rotor of a magneto for, e.g., an internalcombustion engine ignition system, comprises the combination of a plurality of high-coercivity permanent magnets formed integrally as a closed ring 2 and located one next to the other, like pole to like pole, and a pair of non-magnetic end flanges 1 clamped to the respective end faces of the ring and each having a tubular portion 1<SP>1</SP> extending towards the other within a central opening of the ring to form a seating for the rotor shaft 5. Each pole has a stack of arcuate soft iron laminations 3 secured between the flanges by rivets 4. A centrifugal regulator, not shown, for automatically adjusting the ignition timing is built in to rotate with the rotor, and its housing 7 is secured by riveting extensions 8<SP>1</SP> of pivot-pins 8 which are to carry the centrifugal weights.
