Abstract
525,505. Magnetos. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Feb. 22, 1939, No. 5947. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1938. [Class 35] The rotor of a magneto supplying two simultaneous sparks comprises arcuate magnets 11 separated by pole-pieces 12, 13 of unequal lengths and the stator comprises pole-shoes 21, 22 having their adjacent ends unequally spaced and two coils 27, 28 the cores 25, 26 of which are mounted on the ends of the stator pole-pieces. As shown, the rotor magnets are retained with the pole-pieces 12, 13 between non- magnetic plates, 14, 15. Tapped holes 19 are provided in the plate 14 to facilitate withdrawal of the rotor. The primaries of the armature coils 27, 28 are in series and the secondaries separately connected to spark plugs, whereby two simultaneous sparks are produced. When used with a two cycle twin cylinder engine, generation of one of the two sparks normally produced per revolution of the rotor is avoided through the unequal lengths of the rotor pole-pieces and the unequal spacing of the stator pole tips. The interrupter cam is formed on the hub 6 of a detachable fly-wheel 5 and a single contactbreaker 8 and a cam-lubricating device 35 are mounted within the cupped rim of the wheel. The magneto casing is adjustable about the rotor axis.
