794,791. Pipe joints. MANNESMANN AKT.- GES. July 5, 1956 [Aug. 5, 1955], No. 20866/56. Class 99(1). A coupling sleeve 2 receiving the ends of pipes 1 has packing recesses 5 in which packing 7 is compressed against the frusto conical end walls 6 by nuts 10 acting through slotted or divided clamping rings 12 and pressure rings 8, the rings 12 being engaged by frusto conical surfaces 11 of the nuts. On tightening of the nuts 10 the rings 12 first compress the packing 7 to a predetermined extent, after which the surfaces 11 force the rings 12 into clamping engagement with the pipes 1. In a modification the sleeve 2 is provided at its mid-portion with an annular abutment to locate the ends of the pipes 1.
