Abstract
794,242. Respiratory apparatus. ARBORELIUS, M. M., and LUNDGREN, C. E. G. July 11, 1956 [July 11, 1955], No. 21467/56. Class 81 (2). Underwater breathing apparatus comprises a breathing bag having means to compensate for the difference in pressure within the wearer's lungs and the breathing bag at different depths below the surface of the water. The breathing bag 1, which is worn on the back, has two rigid walls 2, 3 hinged together. A weight 7 on one wall 3 increases the pressure in the breathing bag when the wearer's lungs are at a lower level than the breathing bag and reduces the pressure in the breathing bag when the lungs are above the level of the breathing bag, so that the pressures in the lungs and the breathing bag are equalized. Alternatively, a float may be provided on the other wall 2 of the breathing bag. A spring which is tensioned manually through a lever may be provided instead of a float or weight.
