Abstract
623,691. Respiratory appliances. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. May 13, 1947, No. 12941. Convention date, Feb. 1. [Class 81(ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A breathing apparatus for underwater use combines underwater breathing equipment with means for direct communication with the atmosphere when the wearer is at the surface. In the preferred form a mask 1 has a mouthpiece 4 which may be alternatively connected, by a two-way cock 14, either with a breathing tube 6 or, though a tube 13, with a breathing bag 9 and oxygen supply 10. The breathing tube device is preferably of the type described in Specification 623,690 in which a shroud 8 over the end of the tube is automatically closed by a float 7 when submerged. The stem of the changeover cock 14 may be connected through a lever 17 and a wire with a plug-type valve which positively closes the breathing tube when the apparatus is set for use of the oxygen equipment. The breathing bag may be made in the trapezoidal form shown to conform generally with the shape of the body.
