Abstract
795,136. Respiratory appliances. DAVIS, Sir R. H., and SIEBE, GORMAN & CO., Ltd. Dec. 6, 1956 [Dec. 6, 1955], No. 34967/55. Class 81 (2). Underwater breathing equipment for use primarily in exhausting air from the lungs during ascent from a great depth, as from a submarine, comprises a two-way valve 13 by means of which a mouthpiece 1 may communicate either with an air supply through a tube 12 or with a tube 10, leading through a light non- return valve 15 to the surrounding water. Normally the user exhales continuously during his ascent and the exhaled air passes through the valve 15 into the water, but if the ascent is interrupted for any reason it is possible for him to inhale the air contained in the tube 10 until his ascent is continued, since water cannot enter this tube. In other forms of the apparatus a flexible chamber is built into the tube 10 to provide a greater reserve of air. Specification 746,794 is referred to.
