792,456. Variable resistances. PREH, W., and PREH, A., [trading as PREH ELEKTROFEINMECHANISCHE WERKE, J. PREH NACHFOLGER]. Dec. 13, 1955 [Dec. 23, 1954], No. 35811/55. Class 37. In a variable resistor in which the operating knob and shaft form a single element of insulating material carrying a spring contact member which moves over a resistance element and a contact strip the knob has a projection which forms a limit stop by engagement in an arcuate cut-out in the insulated base-plate on which the resistance element is mounted. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, knob 1 and shaft 2 control spring contact member 6, a carbon or graphite contact stud 7 on which moves over resistance element 4 mounted on insulating base-plate 9 and a contact piece 8 which bears on collector ring 5. A projection 13 on knob 1 engages in cut-out 12 in base-plate 9 to limit the rotation of the knob. The heads of rivets 10 by means of which resistance element 4 is mounted on base-plate 9 are covered by projecting flange 14 and the conical shape of knob 1 renders it difficult to remove the knob and spring contact member accidentally. A single base-plate may be common to two or more variable resistors.
