749,161. Variable resistors. MORGANITE RESISTORS, Ltd. May 31, 1954, No. 16119/54. Class 37. Relates to thin-section variable resistors suitable for use as trimmers in printed circuits. A strip metal wiper arm 9, Fig. 1, has tongues extending from slot 10 and through hole 12 in insulating base 1 and bent over at 11, Fig. 2, so that as wiper contact 13 traverses resistance track 2 on base 1 tongues 11 ride along collector ring 16 integral with terminal tag 15. The wiper contact is formed by a depression 13 and arm 9 rider on a washer 14. The base 1 is fixed at 8, 8<SP>1</SP> to chassis &c., and terminal tag 15 may also be fixed at 8 or swung with ring 16 into different fixing position. The desired trimming adjustment may be made by screwdriver operating in slot 10. The resistance track 2 is fixed to base 1 by terminal tag 4 and staple 3 or, for a potentiometer, Fig. 3, another terminal tag in place of staple 3. In Fig. 4 a serrated disc 19 fixed to tongue 11 provides side adjustment; two Fig. 4 units may be bolted together somewhat as in Fig. 5; the latter is, however, an example of ganging with wiper arms 9 ganged by cruciform member 25 and a serrated disc 19 added if required. Fig. 6 exhibits a 2-unit gang operated by spindle 32 having a tongue 35 passing through slots 10 in each unit.
