Abstract
1,232,350. Potentiometers. EGEN ELECTRIC Ltd. 18 April, 1969, No. 20011/69. Heading H1S. An adjustable resistor or potentiometer comprises a body 10, a removable track base 26 (of a resilient plastics, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) carrying an arcuate resistive track 27 (e.g. a carbon coating), connectors 28 to the track 27 which extend axially through the body to form external terminals, a spindle 30 (of a plastics material, e.g. nylon), which carries a resilient wiper 35 which bears against the resistive track 27, and a collector 22. The connectors 28, 28 and 23 as well as a tab may pass through apertures (29, 24, Fig. 3, not shown) in the closed end (12) of the body and be bent to lie in slots 14, so that the orientation of the track base 26 and collector 22 is fixed relative to the body. A longitudinal ridge 51 on the body serves the same purpose. A plastics cover 45 which snaps into the open end of the body is angularly located by recesses 53, 50, 50 which engage the ridge 51 and the ends of connectors 28, 28 respectively. This cover bears against the portion 33 of the spindle, and has a projection 46 which limits the rotation of the spindle. The spindle and cover may be removed by pulling on the spindle 30, so that the track base 26 may be replaced if worn or if a potentiometer with a different resistance is required. The body possesses arms 16 which enable it to be mounted on a chassis, and the cover has projections 52, 53 for the same purpose.
