Mounting means for mounting on a panel a variable resistance assembly contained within an elongated case and including an adjustable lead-screw having its head exposed at one end of the case, comprises a U-shaped bracket 15, Fig. 1, which is fixed externally to the longer sides of the case, the end 38 of the bracket being apertured to receive a tubular headed stud, Fig. 3, having a flange 39 held captive between the body of the resistor and the end 38 of the bracket. Within the tubular stud, a member 46 is rotatably mounted and is provided on the one hand with a slot 52 for an adjusting tool and on the other, with a tongue 48 which is adapted to engage a slot in the head of the lead-screw 23 of the resistor. The arrangement is such that the resistor can be mounted at the rear of a panel P and secured thereto by a nut 44 which engages external threads on the tubular stud. As shown the bracket 15 and stud are assembled on the resistor case but they may be sold separately and subsequently assembled with an existing variable resistor. The resistor shown comprises a body 11 of insulating material having parallel grooves to accommodate a resistance element 20 and a conducting strip (not shown). Journalled above and parallel to the resistance element and strip is a lead-screw which carries a pair of contacts 33 for the element and strip, and is provided with a slotted head 24 for adjustment purposes. The resistor body is enclosed within a sheet metal cover 12 secured by tubular rivets 13 which also secure the mounting bracket 15 to the body. As an alternative to mounting the resistor on a panel, it can be mounted on rods which pass through the rivets 13.
